My New Year’s resolution (for 2010) was to finish what I have started and to use up all the fabric in my sewing closet. So far, I am not sure if I have met either resolution (well, I haven’t bought any new fabric) but I surely have not finished all the PIGS either. I guess, PIGS will be my 2011 New Year’s resolution, too. Talk about pre-planning . . .
I did finish this PIG – Vogue 8399.
This vest I started long ago and FINALLY have finished.
I know needs a little pressing – oops!
I had purchased the wrong size pattern so I had to redraft the shoulders and make them smaller – I dislike pattern drafting but it is a good skill to know. I used fabric from Fabric Land (Orange, CA) which had been ‘stewing’ in my sewing closet. I also use silk pieces from Ah! Kimono. I ignored the guide sheet completely (bad habit of mine) so I ended up doing a lot of hand sewing in order to complete the vest. Next I will try the jacket version.
Some more detail pictures:
The back insert.
Hand sewing the facing/collar section. I also made a matching pair of pants. This will be a good outfit to wear this summer when I need to be ‘put together’ but it is too hot for a blazer. Back to sewing . . . . . .
Another finished project!

I did it. I finished another ‘unfinished project’. Of course, I used the worst fabric – quite possibly the worse fabric choice available. Well, maybe not that bad, but- The problem is the fabric is ‘flocked’. Who knew they made flocked fabric – I thought only Christmas trees got flocked. I purchased this fabric at JoAnns – where sometimes you can get some great fabrics and sometimes you don’t! Anyway, the jacket can’t be dry cleaned and I can’t wash it since I, of course, over tailored it. But – I DID FINISH IT! Here’s another look at the lining, too. I purchase this at Michael Levine’s and I love animal prints. The buttons are from my stash. I know there has been some blog-chatter about using ‘stuff’ from you stash just because its from your stash, but I love it when someone makes a garment and they use unique and interesting buttons/closures/trim or whatever that they bought years ago. There’s a story there and as a sewer I want to hear the story.
Another project completed!

I just finished yet another of my unfinished coats. I finished it several days ago and I am just now posting it here.

- Vogue 8123
Its Vogue8123, considered an ‘easy’ pattern, which doesn’t necessarly mean that I get them done faster. I purchased the button at Michael Levine’s (downtown), but I broke the back of it, so I just sewed it on flat, so the button won’t go through the buttonhole. Oh well!

I know we all have unfinished sewing projects and for many reasons these projects gets set a side and the longer they sit the less likely we are to finish them. So for the New Year 2009, my goal is to either finish these projects or throw them out.
My first project is Vogue 8123. This is Vogue Easy Pattern. Wait, I mean it is a Very Easy Vogue pattern. So, since it is an ‘easy’ pattern, I should have it done, right? Well, it is almost there. I just need to make the lining and sew on the button. Of course, I need to make a lining pattern.

So, this is the first of unfinished projects, that I plan on completing in 2009.
The fabric is from Joann’s and its a sort of felt-like wool. ( I know, odd description, but I forgot to write down the description on the end of the bolt). I want to use a silk lining (probably silk charmeuse) which I’ll get once I go downtown again – hopefully after the holidays. I made this jacket specifically to show off my new embroidery machine. I ‘ve been taking the guide classes and instead of making yet another pillow I thought why not put the embroidery on the back. Of course, no snap of it yet. I will once I get it done.
Another Unfinished project is this wool coat.
It is Simplicity 3966. It is a Built by Wendy pattern.
I think this pattern my be out of print. I started this one a while ago and it has been hanging on the back of my door. What do I need to finish it? Just bias wigan for the hem. I have the lining made – in fact, its pinned in the coat and the buttons are waiting – patiently – in the pocket to be sewn on. Now that is cold here – I could be wearing this! I bought the fabric from Fabric Land (Orange, CA) at one of their sales. It is a wool blend and unravels A LOT! I should have underlined it, but didn’t. Since it unravels so well. It is a tad bit shorter then I had planned.
So here are two of several ( I hate to mention the exact number of unfinished projects) that I plan on finishing this coming year. In the meantime, I hope everyone regardless of what holiday you celebrate, has a Joyous Holiday Season and a Prosperous New Year!
